An approach to achieve
Smart Cities
in Latin America
Smart cities make use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and advanced data analytics to improve and stimulate the formation of an efficient government, which includes collaborative planning processes and citizen participation, promoting integrated development, sustainable and innovative that improves the quality of life of society as a whole.
A smart city must have an understanding of itself allowing it to identify the initiatives that must be carried out within its own reality in order to achieve its objectives. This understanding is attained through the analysis of the city’s data and information. So, the basis of the smart city is the generation of valuable data that is converted into information (truthful, timely and reliable), which, after being collected and analyzed through interoperability services, allows the exchange and sharing of information across multiple sources. This information is used in decision-making processes through Big Data and data analysis and in the generation of services that provide cities with the ability to understand and solve their problems and thus develop public policies for making appropriate decisions promoting the improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants.
